I am still apparently on the whole 'slightly somber' writing theme at the moment so please excuse the fact that it's a bit dark. I blame the fact that all my favourite characters are dying in the books I'm reading. It's also find that for me, the best writing is ones using raw emotions as it makes it realistic to a certain extent. So here is my writing...
Random Words Writing
What is left of the living room makes my nose tingle from the mixture of ash and lingering dust. The right side of the room is a smouldering mess. Instinctively I stride to the fireplace to search for clues. Singed ornamental books lie on the shelf, forgotten photographs capture families which have long since been broken by time and tragedies. My full eyes spill tears like falling rain as the memories flood back to me. I will find her, if it's the last thing I do.
Hi Liana
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever writing task Mrs Allan has shared with you today. I am tempted to give it a go myself!! I recognise many language features from the list in your writing. I particularly like the simile "spill tears like filling rain" as it conjures such a vivid image in my mind.
I am sad to hear your favourite characters are dying in books...what are you currently reading Liana?
A detailed blog post. Well done.
Mrs Bennett
Hi Mrs Bennett,
DeleteThank you. I have just finished reading Little Women (in which my favourite character died), I read Allegiant of late (in which my favourite character dies again), The Heroes Of Olympus: House Of Hades (none of my favourite characters have died yet, but I have a feeling something bad's coming), and Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire (for the 5th time). I have other books to read once I'm done all of them and of course I have the novels from school: The Power Of One and The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind. So basically I have a lot of books to read!
Thank you again

P.S never get me on the subject of books, I could go on forever...
Hi Liana,
ReplyDeleteYou are a gifted writer. Do you think the fact that you are an avid reader contributes to your talent? Like Mrs Bennett, I think I might give this a go. I was thinking what if the word I landed on was 'the'? Maybe I need breakfast first!
Have a great day.
Mrs Shaw
Hi Mrs Shaw,
DeleteThank you. I suppose that when I read I pick up on particular language features and how the authors construct the sentences. I also find myself using particular words to describe things in a quite similar way to that of in the books I'm reading. As you can tell, I love to read, and I do believe that they are simply magic, they transport you to another world without you even moving your feet. So perhaps there is magic somewhere out there, just waiting for us to find it. Until then I can always find it in books.
Have a great day Mrs Shaw,

Hi Liana,
ReplyDeleteMrs Shaw is right you are a very talented writer and so pleased you enjoyed this task. The hardest part for you might have just been choosing what book you choose to find your random word!!
Mrs Allan
Hi Mrs Allan,
DeleteThank you, I definitely did enjoy this task. Oh yes, it was very hard to decide which book I was going to choose from, do I choose Harry Potter or the Hunger Games? Percy Jackson or Nevermoor? Divergent or Little Women. (They are all my favourite book series) In the end I chose Little Women because it is based in the 1860's and was hoping for a word which was quite old fashioned. But alas, I got ornamental which I suppose I could have set around old times, but my mind had other ideas. So yeah.
Have a great day
